Harrow in Leaf 2017

Harrow Beekeepers' Association is a registered charity. Its stated activities include “promoting the craft and heritage of beekeeping by educating the public” and “encouraging an understanding of the benefits of our craft and the role of bees in the environment”. One of the key ways of engaging the wider public, and fulfilling the charitable role, is through the Harrow in Leaf show.

Varroa Treatment 2017

 

The time has come... Honey harvest is mostly done, colonies are very slowly starting preparations for the winter and beekeepers should start thinking about helping them to go into this dificult period as healthy and strong as possible which means also Varroa free.

For this purpose Brian has Api Life Var and Apiguard available fot treatment for our colonies.

Apiary inspections July 2017

Thank you everyone for a tremendous effort to check all our colonies in the apiaries last Saturday. Especially we would like to thank our inspectors: Jo, Bill, Doreen and Judy. All colonies are fine and in a good health. Happy extracting now :)

Sunday 25th June Second Hand Equipment Sale

 

Sale of second hand beekeeping equipment. If you wish to buy or sell any item come to our apiary on the Sunday at 11am

Items must be clean/ sterilised / scorched to be able to be sold. 

President's Tea Party

We would like to invite all members of our Association to join us for annual Preident's Tea Party which will take place on July 1st at 4 pm. It will start with M. Davey talk about antiquities of beekeeping after wich we will have afternoon tea. Please bring plate of food to share and drinks of your chioce. Some deserts will be provided including big bowl of strawberries and cream.

May Day Festival Harrow on The Hill

This year the May Day Festival takes on a green theme, celebrating the local environment of the Hill and how to protect it for future generations. Join us for an afternoon of fun, food, music, dancing and activities for kids big and small. HBKA will have there its own stall.

Subspiecies of Honey Bee. Apis mellifera Carnica

The Latin name of this amazing bee is Apis mellifera carnica. It is a subspecies of the western honey bee, first described by Pollmann in 1879.

The National Honey Show

This year The National Honey Show once again is returning to Sandown Park . The new venue means there's plenty of space to enjoy the fantastic display of all the classes including honey, wax, mead, photography and many others in the main Surrey hall, with the Traders next door in the same hall.

The Federation of Middlesex Beekeepers’ Associations - Beekeepers' Day 2017

The Federation of Middlesex Beekeepers Associations’ Beekeepers Day is for many of us the beginning of the beekeeping year/season when we can gather to talk about bees and beekeeping. This year’s annual meeting will be hosted by Ealing and District Beekeepers’ Association, on Saturday 25th February 2017 at Holy Trinity Church,Suez Avenue,off Medway Drive, Perivale, Middlesex, UB6 8LN.
There will be three very interesting lectures given by Dr Martin Bencsik, Clive de Bruyn NDB and Bob Smith NDB followed by the Annual General Meeting of The Federation.
