Barnet Beekeeping in the 1930s

A series of films made in the 1930s showing how beekeeping was carried on in the neighbouring London suburb of Barnet. Each film is about 10 minutes long and the set of four follow the beekeeping year. This is the period when many of the suburban beekeeping associations began. The basics are the same but the equipment has changed. The only protection is a face mask, the beekeeper works with bare hands and arms. The hives are using "national" frames but the boxes are double walled at the ends rather than rebated rails as is the usual pattern today.
